WHAT IS THE BEAU IDEAL?

An expression derived from the French translation meaning the “ideal beauty” and a way to describe the perfect embodiment and highest standard of excellence. The Beau Ideal was created to bring beauty and personality into your space by using unique, vintage, (and sometimes antique) items that are both appealing and functional. A curation of goods that allow you to infuse your own personality into your space and give it life. Above all, a source for genuine vintage pieces that were produced with intention, quality and design in mind.

 

WHO IS BEHIND THE BEAU IDEAL?

Owner and founder Rafael emigrated with his mother from Colombia in the early ‘90s in search of “The American Dream.” As a child of a single parent who instilled the principals of hard work and being driven by your dreams, Rafael used all chances available to pursue success. After working in customer service, retail management and account management, a desire to be self-employed pushed Rafael to follow his dreams. Driven by a passion for interior design, an eye for heirloom quality vintage items and his own taste as inspiration, The Beau Ideal emerged.

 

WHEN AND WHY? THE BEAU IDEAL ORIGIN STORY

The Beau Ideal started in 2015, a year after a new business venture, a mobile fashion truck was founded by Rafael and his partner Sam. In the process of remodeling and designing the interior of the truck, a decision was made to use vintage furniture pieces to display accessories. The design required a midcentury modern hutch and desk, and after an extensive search, nothing quite fit the bill. A resourceful pair, they decided to source the two pieces themselves and after an estate sale produced both pieces, Rafael quickly became obsessed with the hunt. By early 2015 he was offering curated, hand-selected home goods via his social media accounts and online.

Items sourced by The Beau Ideal have appeared in British Vogue, Architectural Digest, Domino magazine, T Magazine and People magazine as well as series on Netflix and Apple TV. Currently you can source directly via our website, social media channels or in store where you can see our latest finds. Our showroom is located at 227 Elmer St Westfield NJ 07090 and we are open Fridays and Saturdays from 11am-5pm. We are available by appointment Tuesday through Thursdays as well.
